Palmetto, Florida is a charming and vibrant city on the Gulf coast of Florida, ideally situated between the Manatee River and Terra Ceia Bay. Samuel Sparks Lamb is known as the “Father of Palmetto,” arriving in 1868 and later operating a general merchandise store. The city was named after the palmetto trees near the original town site. History lives on in the Palmetto Historical District, containing 208 historic buildings as well as the Palmetto Historical Park. Palmetto residents enjoy a variety of small businesses and restaurants, and Detwiler’s Farm Market is a favorite local destination. With its close proximity to Tampa/St. Pete, other area attractions include Busch Gardens, Ybor City, The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, world renowned white sand beaches, and the home venues of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Tampa Bay Rays. The climate of Palmetto is considered subtropical, from the warm humid summer days capped off with cooling showers, to the sun soaked and breezy days of winter.
